Paul Baillie

Paul BailliePaul Baillie has been practicing Karate since the age of 35. Below he describes his background and history in his own words.

"I discovered Wado Ryu Karate at the ripe age of 35. I was originally looking for an “interesting” way of getting some exercise as I was bored with my regular trips to the gym which were fast becoming irregular. A friend suggested Karate which he reckoned would stimulate my mind whilst performing a physical activity.

Having never practised any form of martial art I was not sure what to expect, I had built up an image in my mind resembling a sweaty boxing gym straight out of the first Rocky movie. My presumptions could not have been further from reality, I was warmly greeted by Sensei Paul Elliott and pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone at Horsham Karate Club.

I didn’t realise at that time quite how addictive it would be. I started training once a week, which soon turned into twice a week and then I started to attend every weekend course available. I now assist Sensei Paul with the instruction of the childrens classes twice a week, which I enjoy almost as much as training.

Both my children, Nicholas and Laura are now working their way up through the ranks."
